Some of you may have thought that we’d gone away. One person in particular probably hoped so. However, as so often with these things, the reality is far more prosaic: there’s simply been nothing of note to report from KopTalk.
The site’s pretty quiet, with the same round of familiar members providing the majority of posts, and Oldham himself has varied between inactivity and posting multiple YouTube videos or else attempting to stimulate debate with increasingly bizarre topics.
19/10/07 08:46 PM Have you ever seen a UFO
I have… twice…
19/10/07 08:45 PM Have you ever seen a ghost?
19/10/07 08:45 PM Would you grass a family member up…
… for a serious crime such as rape, murder etc?
19/10/07 08:44 PM Pepsi or Coca Cola?
Pepsi all the way for me….
19/10/07 08:43 PM School dinners?
Personally I thought they were great… I had a cheese ball… cheese and mash in batter, deep fried with chips and beans and a glass of milk… buzzin.
19/10/07 08:41 PM What came first….
… the chicken or the egg?
19/10/07 08:36 PM Should the unemployed be made to work?
I mean come on, at least keep them occupied, the scroungers that is, not the ones who have paid in all their lives or who have worked all their lives and genuinely need help. I’m talking about the scum you see tossing it off in town centres with those stupid little dogs… you know, the chav types of this world
19/10/07 08:35 PM The 9/11 bombers
Were they terrorists, freedom fighters or U.S. Govt?
19/10/07 08:33 PM Who would win an arm wrestle between Allah and God?
God? Allah? Or would it be draw because both arms are one?
19/10/07 08:31 PM Should homosexuals/lesbians be allowed to…
Please explain why…
Riveting stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree, and the KT members responded in…well…the single figures, actually.
Perhaps that’s why he more recently reverted to the tried-and-tested method of taking a news story, interpreting it with his own guesswork, and adding his own bull about KopTalk ‘sources’.

Reports today claim that Liverpool FC’s owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have called a meeting with Rafael Benitez to discuss the campaign so far.
It is claimed that Rafa will meet the duo at Anfield – opposed to Melwood where they initially romanced (?!) during the Honeymoon period – one day next week for talks.
There’s no way that the boss will receive the bullet at this stage of the season but KOPTALK sources (Oldham, for the hundredth time, you have no sources at Anfield, and certainly none who’d dream of betraying such confidential information) insist that the manager’s position is not as safe as some people think.
Up for debate will be the season so far and what moves, if any, will take place during the January transfer window.
If Liverpool fail to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League, there is every possibility that the boss could be axed by the new owners. Failure to qualify will be seen as a financial disaster.
A sacking mid-season would be extremely unlikely but Rick Parry would have to be dispatched to try and find a replacement in time for the summer. Basically the owners need to be confident that Rafa is the man to lead us into the 2008-09 campaign.
As reported by KOPTALK several weeks ago, there have been some question marks raised upstairs about the manager’s selection policies. Those murmurs have come from some members of the board and those associated to the previous administration and not the new owners or anyone else who has recently come in.
We feel that the meeting between the owners and the manager will be fairly routine but the key difference here is the fact that this will be at Anfield and not Melwood which suggests more ‘formal’ business rather than the usual ‘tea and biscuits’ scenario. (Notice how, here, he makes it sound as if he’s privy to the inner workings of the procedures at Liverpool. It’s all guesswork and unlikely to be correct at that. He has a particular liking for the phrase ‘tea and biccies’, as he once claimed to have shared them with Gérard Houllier.)
A couple of consecutive wins and the mood should change but a defeat at home to Arsenal will pile even more pressure on, with the new owners wanting immediate progress as they have a new stadium to pay for.
Having whipped up some hysteria with this, and advertising it with the ‘crisis’ tag on the KopTalk.coN front page, he then donned his Dunk hat to have his cake and eat it by distancing himself from it all.

I don’t for one minute think Rafa would get the boot. I’m confident that this is more about meeting to discuss the near future. Others though believe it’s more of a ‘crisis’ meeting; I don’t.
If he doesn’t believe it’s a crisis, then why bill it as one? The cynical among us could start accusing him of trying to encourage new subscribers or sending his forums into a frenzy. Surely not.
Finally, who remembers his idle boast some months back that he’d booked accommodation for all the home games in the first half of the season? We’ve already demonstrated that he’s definitely not been at some, and he’s made no references to them nor provided any proof of attending. He’s saying he was there yesterday, though…

I could understand if it was a done deal for any game, but people were leaving today when everything was still up for grabs until the last second.
Just trying to understand why people would want to leave?
I leave usually in stoppage time. I push it as far as I can. Reason? Traffic. Leave at full time and it can put an extra 2 or 3 hours on my journey. Family comes first. When staying in a hotel like tonight then I’m happy to see it out but it’s all about getting home asap 🙂
