Blog that! – Part 1 – Is the cock still crowing?

by Rupert Insider

27th August 2006

The Blog started in its original experimental form in March, 2006. It was a one-man operation by Insider.

Its readership grew spontaneously without advertising. But a critical-mass did not develop until the beginning of June. Effectively, the Blog started then.

I discovered the Blog when Oldham made several contemptuous references to the “numpties” who were writing about him. He claimed it did not bother him: on the contrary, it brought him valuable publicity.

He would not name the Blog on KT and banned anyone who did. He disabled the Private Messages and email features to prevent the Blog being discussed behind his back – but he made frequent, indirect references to it. It was always on his mind. For example, whenever he let slip an oafish remark – and then realised it might be controversial – he took to saying – “Blog that!”.

So we did.

Different contributors to the blog object to different aspects of Oldham and KT.

A common objection is his central claim to have privileged and exclusive access to Anfield, Melwood and the Academy and to be a trusted confidant of players, ex-players, and serious journalists.

Others objected mainly to his disrespect for the Hillsborough 96 and LFC boycott of the S**.

Many are uncomfortable with his charities – especially those for family members – and his total failure to register them or produce receipts and accounts.

Some object to his shady business practices, such as selling fake LFC memorabilia with fake Certificates of Authenticity, using competitions to promote his site and then failing to announce the winners or to deliver the prizes, or to his constant creation of new categories in the hierarchy of his members, as an excuse for charging additional fees, or his charging for articles and photos and videos which he has stolen, without attribution, from the LFC Official site or other media, or his charging for the downloading links, rumour and gossip provided free by the members of his site.

Many objected to his unfair methods of competing with and undermining other sites set-up for LFC supporters including his squatting on their domain names, his ridicule of them and his false claims that KT has been voted the World’s No. 1 Site and the No.1 LFC site.

Some object to his recurring personal attacks on the LFC Board and senior officials and his mockery and name-calling and malicious gossip about certain players.

____________________

By June, Oldham was preparing for what he expected to be his best-ever summer of transfer rumours. It would bring him new riches. He talked of moving the site to larger, faster servers to handle the anticipated increase in traffic.

He talked about his plans to extend ownership to similar or “sister” sites for supporters of Newcastle, Spurs and Forest and the shell-sites he was already constructing for them. He boasted of his new stand-alone KT headquarters, his plans to buy new photographic, computer and television equipment and an ex-military Landrover,a van and other vehicles to go along with his latest second-hand Mercedes.

And if anyone was still in doubt about the financial success of his business – which he valued at five million pounds, according to a post on TLW by his confidant and moderator, DJ_Sydney – he also spoke about plans to buy a house overlooking Melwood (one prospective property had a 300,000 pounds asking price). He enthused about his plan to buy a hotel in central Liverpool to convert to a Kop-theme and to make it available free-of-charge to visiting Gold Club members. And all of these new properties and possession were additional to the purchase of his own house and the mortgage he had removed from his mother’s house – all with cash received from KT.

At the same time he was promoting his new internet broadcast service, his podcasts, and a new paid SMS service, as well as advanced sales of his proposed book in which he would expose Anfield and tell the story of his struggle against “the suits”. And all these expansion plans were the justification for his urging readers to click on Google ads and the Adult Date Finder and to place bets with the firms who paid him generous commissions for referrals.

In his MySpace profile, he boasted of an annual income of 250,000. He claimed repeatedly that his personal wealth justified his business model, his values and his opinions and anyone who questioned them were simply jealous of his success.

It appears that all this talk of financial success was intended to convey the impression of an unstoppable force, supported and approved by thousands of fans and all the interested institutions, including LFC.

Despite his alleged wealth he continued to beg for money for various causes, including some associated with his family. He directed that the money be sent to his or his mother’s bank account. He presented himself as an enlightened do-gooder. He was pained that anyone could be so disrespectful as to ask for an accounting. If they did he complained that they were as good as “attacking” the children who were the alleged beneficiaries of his appeals.

Ever since Oldham gained control of the KT site from its original founder, he has tried to develop a cult based on his personality. This summer those cultic aspects intensifed. He started several new forums on KopTalk devoted to his personal views as well as a new blog to detail the minutiae of his daily life. He deliberately set out to make his obesity, his appetite for pies and peas and his drinking of Woodpecker cider a recurring theme.

He also made constant written and photographic references to his family, including his young children, his wife, his 16 year-old step-brother and his mother.

He used his site and its “radio” arm to rehearse his views on the state of Britain, immigration, pornography and the rape of young girls. He canvassed his readers on their taste in pornography and discussed his dealings with the photographic model featured on his site as well as discussing his conquest of girls he allegedly met on the internet and his bar-room dating techniques.

He lectured his readers on why his site did not support or feature the Hillsborough 96 and the Michael Shields campaigns – because they were “political” and “difficult to deal with”. His site, he said, was about “entertainment”. He admitted to taking the S** daily and went to great lengths to argue that the Hillsborough/ LFC boycott of that rag was questionable.

He swaggered around the forums, frequently imposing his views on the deficiencies of the LFC “top brass”, the feasibility and timing of investment in the club, the merits or otherwise of this player or that. He intervened in the threads, elminating some, suspending posters on a whim and often overuling the moderators. Any who questioned him were classified as “whingers” and reminded that it was his personal site and he need not justify his actions or his views. If they didn’t like it, they could “fuck off”.

He sacked moderators whose loyalties he suspected. And he never seemed to be short of applicants to fill the vacant postions. According to him, there were many who wanted to work for free in return for the privilege of access to his “boardroom”.

Indeed, he often suggested that his main problem was containing the unwashed, huddled masses trying to gain access to his site.

So at the beginning of this summer he seemed to be on top of the world – crowing like a cock. A few numpties scribbling on a blog would not disturb his sense of well-being.

It’s now less than three months since the Blog developed critical mass.

Is the cock still crowing?

Let’s have a look.

The purpose of this post is to start a file that can be filed in the blog archives under READ ME. It will serve as a historical sketch of the blog. It will attempt to set out the objectives of the Blog, as they developed spontaneously, as well as the direct and indirect results – todate. Future posts can then be added as events occur.

Such a file will be useful for newbies or for those who ask general questions like “what’s the blog all about”?

Nice article, sums things up nicely.

I have to say there is one mistake though, he’s definitely “developed a cunt based personality.”

At least I think that’s what you said.

  3. sawyerinsider Says:

one thing we know is that he’s had an 80% drop in signups during the months of July and August 2006 compared to the same months in 2005. A busy summer it is not.

  4. Andy Says:

This may be a little off-topic, but I’d like to hear some more about how Oldham “gained control of KT from its original owner”. I’d always assumed he started up the site himself. I’d especially like to know if he was a regular and respected poster on the site during its infancy, because I’ve never seen him post anything but fatuous, half-witted, ill-informed bollocks over the years I’ve been there.

  5. ROCK Says:

Ever since Oldham gained control of the KT site from its original founder

    care to elaborate on this?

  6. ROCK Says:

oh and one other thing a poster on est1892 is claiming he saw dunk at anfield on sat
    something i would never believe.

  8. Alfonso Says:

Interesting to see that a number of photo’s cropped up this weekend in and around Anfield although I don’t think I saw any of the fat man himself. Who goes armed with a camera and fails to take a single photo of themself there especially after it looks as though him attending the Community Shield now looks like a load of bollocks.

  9. scouse Says:

This is a nice thread which touches on lots of areas quite nicely

I’d like to see this type of thread turned into almost an index, so when mentioning a landrover link to the story, the same with the parry lies, chris waddles house – the list goes on…

I can’t believe in 6 months we’ve had one picture of Ablett from over the fence, considering this is one of his selling points you think the f*cker would at least put a bit of effort it to try and save his site

I first found kraptalk about a year ago but never thought anything of it.

However i first started to become disillusioned with KT after firstly i found Dunk wasn’t a scouser. I could live with that, but found it a bit dubious that he was starting up both a newcastle and spurs site and providing ‘inside info’ through them. (not sure if they still exist)

I noticed many of the posters not positing anymore. ShaggyAlonso is one that springs to mind. But kept going with the insider subscription because i still believed that that Dunk knew best.

But after stumbling to this blog and finding EST1892 the whole pack of lies that dunk has people falling for including once myself .

I dont like the fact that you cant see streams to saturday games online anymore. I dont like the fact that the insider information is either fairly sparse or shit i read in the paper anyway.

I dont post on KT, i mainly lurk just to read the views of posters. But their is such a tight control any heated debate whcih i like about the football club is deleted.

The whole issue with the SUN newspaper doesn’t bother me, but not giving out competitions prizes and phoney charities does.

I am an insider for a good few months yet and will continue to lurk because the site does have a nice layout, but once its up i wont renew and would urge others to do the same. I also wont give out my KT alias as i’m likely to be banned.
Lets stop him being a conman and let the geordie make an insider site for his beloved newcastle.

Some of you may remember my report that Chris Bascombe promised to look up his 2001 reference to Koptalk or Kopchat. He sent it in a couple of weeks ago but I overlooked it. However, I have now amended my original article which can be found on 9th August “”Koptalk – I thought that was closed down years ago!”

It is to be found on https://koptalkinsider.wordpress.com/page/4/

I have included this excerpt from the Bascombe article in the Pink Edition of the Football Echo in October 2001 and changed a few other words.

“Robbie only has to breathe these days and someone, somewhere is writing about him. This week, when Robbie wasn’t even playing, we saw an another example which shows how, more than any other player, he is the target of rumour.

“I was sent an article by a reader which appeared on an unofficial website, which I won’t name because it doesn’t deserve the free ad it probably wants (okay, I will. Apparently it’s called Kopchat or Koptalk or something like that). They wrote an outrageous lie which dared to suggest Robbie’s absence on Tuesday wasn’t because he was ill.

As Robbie explained: “I woke up on Tuesday and felt really lousy and light-headed. I was about to come into training in the afternoon and I called the doc. The doctor came round to my house, examined me and told me to go back to bed.”

Those of you who were out of the loop might like to know that at the time Oldham was in full-cry in pursuit fo Fowler in his stalking campaign and had claimed that he missed training because he had a hangover after a heavy bout of drinking. In fact, it turns out he had a serious chest infection.

  12. rupertinsider Says:

    Andy and Rock:

I have posted the name of the founder of KT and some historical details about when and how Oldham took over control. But I can’t find it at the moment – I think it is one of the comments rather than an article. When I find it I will post it. It was probably June or earlu July.

I say “took control” rather than bought because it is all a bit vague. Oldham offered to work on the site to assist the original founder. Oldham’s main contribution was a bunch of email addresses he brought with him (how valuable they turned out to be!) Oldham used to have a real job in those days, or at least he used to make money from other pursuits. (He had some domains registered which suggest he was in contract cleaning and security and then there were the sales of illegal statellite cards as Del). He started to work part-time on KT. Eventually, he came to be the main man, gave up proper work, started begging for free equipment and cash, and then emerged as the “owner” or “controller” of KT. Frankly I don’t know how he engineered it and what the formal agreement was or is.

The founder was an IT professional. On his resume on the site of his current firm he still claims to be “co-owner” of the site he founded. I wrote to him but did not receive a reply.

  13. ROCK Says:

maybe dunk is a front man for the site?

  14. rupertinsider Says:

I’ve been told that the founder was a decent sort – a genuine LFC supporter. He is currently in a professional position with a respected IT company. Judging by his photo he seems to be about the same age as Oldham. I thought it was curious that he lists his co-ownership of the No. 1 LFC  football fan-site in the world in his impressive resume of site’s he has built. But that language is Oldham’s. The site was the largest in those early years of the net and before the Official Site opened but the “No. 1” thing was cooked up by Oldham and I will deal with that in another article.

It’s almost like the founder is still staking a claim. I wonder if there was some dirty business ? I wanted to find out but he does not respond.

I’m a bit hazy about some other aspects, maybe Tom or someone else with a longer history of involvement than I can clarify.

I know Oldham started on usenet selling Sky cards: he also was involved in other usenet groups and somehow assembled a mailing list of LFC supporters.

I think, but am not sure, that KT also started on usenet, before switching to www. Oldham brought with him his usenet mailing list.

  15. Tom Says:

There was an LFC newsgroup that wasn’t anything to do with KT but Dunkin used to post on. Paul Graham used it too. It was pretty lively 🙂

  16. Ordinary to Rome Says:

The other lad was called Colin Seaman and his original site was Liverpool Forever – he set up Koptalk with Dunkin’ Donut (Colin put togther all the technical aspects of the site) but they split over differences in the future of the site after about 8-9 months and he concentrated on http://www.football-review.co.uk. I don’t think he was too keen on the financial whoring Mr Oldham had planned.

The usenet newsgroup was originally alt.sports.soccer.liverpool but Duncan engineered a takeover by flooding it with news stories and then forcing through the formation of a new usenet group uk.sport.football.clubs.liverpool. He wrote the rules/regulations for this new group which allowed him to spam the group when he set up Koptalk.

  18. rupertinsider Says:

I notice that the latest version says “has jointly” owned. My memory is that the last time I looked, before I wrote asking him about it, his resume said “is” the joint owner.

To be fair, KT was the largest unofficial LFC site in the world back then in 1999-2001. Oldham, the Grand Old Duke of York, has led it down the hill since then.

  19. rupertinsider Says:

Here’s a money making idea for Dunkin “Mitty” Donuts – but it would mean stealing it from a rival site. But what the hell…….

“The webcam updates every time someone makes a post so that’s some incentive to the unwashed masses to join in the hot Boutros chat going on in my fun-packed, addictive, informative, life-changing and world peace achieving blog…”

Although it was windy today, we managed to retain our balance and snap a few photos for you. We’ve also got some video clips which we’ll be adding to the members area first later today hopefully. We’ll also try and get some of them on here for you.

So he admits he is outside now……

Must have been quite a shock. Fresh air – exercise etc. Hope he had an oxygen tent.

Anyone know where the http://www.koptalksucks.com redirect domain has gone? As far as I know, Koptalk does still suck.

So was he standing on his Merc or Steves shoulders?

  25. Colin Seaman Says:

    Hi,

I see you guys are talking about me. It’s funny this has all blown up now (I always imagined it would when Dunc took full control).

Believe me, Dunc and I are not pals! I’m still waiting for his “look what I did on my own” book (or at least my fiver back!)

    Colin
