Competition time again – will we see a winner?

Yesterday afternoon Dunk was feeling generous. Or he wanted his members to think that. So he offered to supply two tickets for the Maccabi Haifa match to his Gold Club members as a competition prize. He’d forgotten the match was even taking place the other day, but now he’d remembered and he had tickets to spare.

He wasn’t even going to sell them at inflated prices! Generous or what? In fact all he wanted for them was for some actual hits on his site.

Would anyone like to go to the Maccabi match as my guest?
#1590042 – Sat Aug 05 2006 12:38 PM

Open to a Gold Club member and their guest.

You will be seated together at my expense so you’ll only need money to get there and for food/drinks etc.

I’ll need a UK postal address to send details to you by Next Day Special Delivery. This means you will need to sign for the paperwork on Tuesday morning.

This Wednesday at Anfield. Kick-off 8.05pm.

Reply to this thread if you would like to be entered into the draw.

Excellent – Dunk’s just giving his Gold Club members one of the competitions he promised them when they first shelled out that thirty quid. Ok, so he can’t give them free football any more (well, no more than anyone get by spending five minutes having a look by themselves). Any links he provides to video clips are repeated here too, so that’s not exclusive. Similar story with the bullshit – he makes it up, we publish it here. What else was that 30 quid for?

All I can think of right now is competitions. He reminds his “insider” members what they can get if they change their membership to “Gold” –

LOL… if I had my way I’d get you all there. I hate doing these as people miss out. But we’ll do a draw and I’ll make one of my kids do it so I escape the guilt
– – – – – – – – – –

Ah – he gets his kids to do the draws. Is that why the summer competition for an X-box didn’t actually come to a conclusion? WHO WON IT? If I missed it, then apologies, but I came across the thread the other day. People had to predict a score in a World Cup game. That was the end of it. There’s no way slimey himself is going to give away an X-box without making a big deal of it and announcing it with a banner strung from the back of a plane. Actually, there’s no way slimey is going to give away an X-box. Unless someone says otherwise, I think it’s safe to say – it’s a lie.

Did those who won the caption comps recently get their prizes? And if you “win” the tickets, remember to let Duncan know so that he can show off about it. Somehow I doubt anybody will win.

Still no more scans of the lottery tickets, pools syndicate entries or season tickets. Dunk lies.

And he lies about his lies. And says he’s not the liar, the rest of the world is. How many of you reading this have been locked out of Koptalk because you didn’t produce an email, yet you produced paypal receipts for your lifetime memberships? Paypal receipts from a period in time when all Insider memberships were given out on a “lifetime” basis? Dunk denies any such thing –

Quick Note Regarding Promotional Offers / Memberships etc
#1499401 – Tue Jun 20 2006 02:06 PM
Anyone that tells you that we’re not honouring our Insider life-time membership promotions are telling porkies. HQ staff are going through our entire database checking that everyone – including Gold Club members and even moderators – have a completed profile and that their credentials are on file.

If a member does not supply his / her credentials or does not have their receipt (confirmation of offer) then they may be locked out. Providing they have their receipt / sign-up email(s) requested etc. there isn’t a problem. Problems only arise where members haven’t followed specific instructions to retain their membership credentials.

I am not personally involved in this so please, if you’re going to tell porkies, use a little more imagination. It takes me months to get through my existing emails and I simply don’t have the time to deal with the membership side of things. If someone emails me for help then of course I’ll have a nosey for them and see what I can do but apart from that, membership databases just don’t do it for me.

The majority of people affected by this swoop have been superb. Not only have they been polite but they have also been very helpful. Naturally a handful of people have been extremely abusive and they’ve been sent packing, even though they have offered to resubscribe at the normal full membership.

We really are doing everything we can to weed out the less desirables who are abusive to other members and ourselves.

Contrary to suggestions on other websites, revenue is not all that counts. When it comes round round to renewal times for certain members, they will be denied the opportunity to renew. We’re really working hard to get out people who offer nothing but sarky and abusive remarks or those who just post rubbish. We want quality not quantity.

If only everyone was like this member:

Hello,

this is just a quick note to inform you that I have now updated my annual subsrcription to this fine site. I really feel that I have had my moneys worth especially being based in belgium, where one struggles to keep up with the matches.

The wide variety of interesting information and services offered are great and often its the small things like the links to interesting sites that makes the small amount worth the cash.

the community on the Koptalk sites is pretty cool welcoming and humourous as well as knowledgeable, although I do wonder about some of the memebers 😉

I’ll try to post a bit more next year, only another 90 or so till I hit the big 1000.

Keep up the good work guys and girls.

and no, Steve didn’t type that up!

I would like to thank those of you who continue to make this place fun and enjoyable.
– – – – – – – –

The fact is Dunk, people don’t need to produce emails if you are being as fair and community-spirited as you claim you are. You had a period of time where all memberships to the Insider were “lifetime memberships”. So anyone who joined then is a lifetime member. Is that so hard to do? Is it?

You invented the “Gold Club” (limited to 1000 members) because your lifetime membership idea brought in a lot of money, but there was no new money coming in. So stop the bullshit, and let those members back in. If you can’t or won’t do that then give them their money back. A fair and honest person would do that without question. A liar with dictatorial tendencies would try and change history, hide the truth, remove all traces of evidence that contradicted what he was saying and make sure nobody but he got to “win”. Which one is Dunk most like?

This community is great though. How much do you fancy shelling out up to thirty quid to be a part of this?

ADVICE
#1590011 – Sat Aug 05 2006 11:55 AM
This summer we adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ in relation to stupidity and abuse on the forums. We decided that some people were getting too big for their boots and that newcomers especially were suffering as a result as many people have told us they were getting put off from posting.

Someone who has been here 5 minutes is just as important as someone who has been here 5 years. That is why we’re not afraid to cull people who have been here some time. It’s not nice having to get heavy handed but if polite requests are ignored and people want to be treated like school kids, then we have no option but to get rid of them.

Quality not quantity is our ethos. Contrary to popular belief, revenue isn’t the most important thing here. We won’t let any idiot renew just for the sake of an extra year’s sub.

Breaking up cliques is never popular but having moderated forums for 10 years now, it’s water off a ducks back to me. Numerous websites have spawned as a result of us wading into them with coshes decked out in riot gear. Naturally they speak favourably of us as a result when we’ve binned them. I can think of 3 or 4 LFC sites that were created by former members from here and the main forums on koptalk.org

‘Community’ that is the main word here. The majority come before the minority. The community is made up of many, many people. Our youngest members are 6 and 13 – they are my children. Robbie plays in the games arcade, Charlotte is now moderating and taking more responsibilities. The oldest members are over 65. All of us should think twice before posting.

It would be easy to blame youth for immature posts or abusive posts but most of the clowns that try to spoil things are usually in their late 20’s or 30’s – I guess it’s a second childhood for them.

The reason for this post is to remind everyone that we will not tolerate any idiots here. If you overstep the mark you will be ejected for the benefit of the majority who show respect not only to other members but also their hosts.

We go to great lengths to try and provide the latest LFC news we can. We source every major LFC news source, speak to friends, associates and so on. We give 100% all of the time. Sometimes that isn’t enough for some people. All we can say to you if you don’t like it here and don’t want to renew etc is log-out.

As it says on the official LFC website:

If you are dissatisfied with the Website or any content or materials on it, your sole exclusive remedy is to discontinue your use of it.

See, they have the same attitude as us.

If you want to act like school children, if you want to post abuse at others, go and find another community because you will not get away with it here. The same applies if you want to attack contributors.

If there’s someone you don’t like, stay clear of them. If you think someone’s taking the ****, just email editor@koptalk.com and we’ll monitor them.

The behaviour of some members over the summer has shocked me. Some of these members have professional careers and families yet they act like ten year old kids. Again, we don’t want this here. Grow up.

We don’t like moderating the forums at all and we certainly take no pleasure when we have to ban someone. To be honest people only ban themselves because we think we’re very fair with people both here and on the main site.

However, we will continue to moderate the forums in a strict manner so that the majority of decent Liverpool supporters and supporters of KopTalk can talk about their beloved Reds without having to endure any form of abuse. We don’t care if that makes us unpopular.

If someone is abusive or if you notice a trend with someone constantly taking swipes at others, just tip us off in confidence and we will watch them.

Passion can spill over so we try to use common sense. All of us – ourselves included – say the wrong things from time to time.

We’re looking forward to the new season and we hope that with your continued support we can maintain a sensible environment here to discuss the Mighty Reds.
– – – – – – – – –

That was yet another rant from Duncan fuelled by a member daring to be straight with him. He hates to be shown for what he is – a liar and a cheat. He can’t defend himself against what is actually true, so he hides the evidence then has a rant. He’s done it for years now. Liverpool fan sites are usually run by Liverpool fans. Koptalk isn’t a Liverpool fan site.

Sorry, didn’t know that.

I thought you’d get paid either way. I won’t mention it again.

Fatty’s having to sit in bed at night moderating his forums. I saw a post on there (koptalkinsider) today that said “Google Koptalk Exposed” too. If you are a soon-to-banned or expiring member and want to know how to do this, send me an email and I’ll explain. Thanks to “?” for telling us about this way round things. I wonder how many members have seen the message already?

It’s because of these messages from the revolting members (I mean members carrying out the revolution, he thinks all of his members are revolting). So, sitting in bed (alone) until the small hours of every morning, he’s getting the wires tangled up with his breathing machine (seriously) so he needs to go wire-free.

A quick bit of love for Dunk’s hero, Mr Houllier. Although Dunk himself has never had any sources at the club, it was during the Houllier years that he had most insider members who did have access to snippets of information. He also had a lot of members who were making it up too, but Dunk gave them room to do so, because they convinced a lot of his members and kept the hits up. They were always on a sticky wicket though. Dunk claims to know things even now about what went on in the Houllier era.

Most of Ged’s team won the Champions League.. admittedly thanks to Rafa.

But yeh, Ged did sign some great players and he wanted others but they were blocked by the board (like Rafa’s experiencing now with the odd million here or there).

When’s Ged’s book out? Could be a good read that.

Never mind when Ged’s book’s out you lazy git Oldham. We’ve been waiting for yours ever since people thought Bruno Cheyrou might actually turn out to be any good. That’s a hell of a long time ago. I had logged on to the koptalk chat during the match & I have to say I was less than impressed (this time).

Some of the comments that were being posted were less that constructive, don’t get me wrong I know this is a site for people to give their options but I don’t see where comments like (with out having a go at anyone) “only one more mistake by him & he’ll equal Hobbs’s mistake hat trick” is an option.

Also the comments on the forum about Speedy as well, this guy has only been in the country 5 mins and people are on his back already.

I know there are high expectations associated with LFC but I think that some people need a reality check. If Everton was playing in my back garden I’d close the curtains

What you have to take into consideration is the various ages of people. Is a 44-year-old bloke going to say that or a 14-year-old kid?

I’m not saying all kids are loon and all ‘older’ Reds are sensible but it’s just about educating people to be realistic.

My biggest reason for starting this site was to expose Dunk’s bullshit in the insider information department. Most people have now found this out, but some still believe him. Perhaps the idea one person emailed to me about hiring our own plane for Cardiff could be worth it.

Here’s a poor uninformed member of the “free” site. Or someone taking the piss which is happening all the more of late. This is regarding Dunk’s unilateral declaration that Kuyt might or might not be flying into Merseyside this week or next week, but he might or might not be speaking to Chelsea or Newcastle too. FORUMS MOVE & FRIDAY’S PODCAST

The koptalk.org forums will soon be moved to a new server. That server is now ready so we will press ahead with the move soon. Further details will be announced in due course.

Friday’s podcast will hopefully be recorded after this evening’s fixture against FSV Mainz 05. If it isn’t, we will record it on Saturday morning instead. It depends how much time we have free after the match.

NEW MAKE-OVER FOR KOPTALK.COM

On Monday we will begin planning our next build of koptalk.com – our current build made things a lot easier for us in terms of updating the site etc but we need to step things up a level for 2007 and beyond.

The new koptalk.com website will hopefully be mind blowing as we take another step up on the ladder. There’s no rush to bring in the new site but the deadline we’ve set is the start of the 2007-08 season. If everything is in place this season then we will roll her out.

I wonder if Duncan has got permission from Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds plc and/or UEFA inorder for him to give away those two tickets as prizes. The terms and conditions of sale of tickets state that:

    3. Use of Home Match Ticket
3.1 The Home Match Ticket is issued for your sole use and you shall not resell, assign or (save as set out in clause 3.3 below) transfer the Home Match Ticket or the benefit of it to any other person without the prior written consent of the Club. For the avoidance of doubt (and by way of example only) this Home Match Ticket may not be offered as a prize in any promotion or competition or transferred, lent or sold to any third party as part of a hospitality or travel package, or used for any other commercial purpose save as expressly authorised by the FA Premier League Limited or the Club.

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/tickets/ticketterms.htm

Just for completeness the whole section on use of Home tickets is as follows:

    3. Use of Home Match Ticket
3.1 The Home Match Ticket is issued for your sole use and you shall not resell, assign or (save as set out in clause 3.3 below) transfer the Home Match Ticket or the benefit of it to any other person without the prior written consent of the Club. 3.2 The unauthorised sale of tickets is illegal under section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. The Club will inform the police when it becomes aware that tickets are being sold illegally and will press for charges to be brought against those breaking the law.
3.3 If more than one Home Match Ticket is issued to you one Home Ticket must be retained by you for your personal use and the remainder may be transferred to your Guest(s) for his/her personal use only PROVIDED THAT such transfer takes place in consideration of no payment or benefit in excess of the face value of the Home Match Ticket plus any pro rated administration cost, and such transfer does not take place in the course of any business or for the purpose of facilitating any third party’s business. Such transfer to any Guest will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Entry which will apply to the Guest as if he/she were the original purchaser of the Home Match ticket. You will provide the names and addresses of your Guest(s) when asked to do so by any official, steward or employee of the Club or any police officer,
3.4 The Home Match Ticket will remain the property of the Club at all times and must be produced together with evidence of your identity if required to do so by any official, steward or employee of the Club or any police officer. The Club reserves the right to require the immediate return of the Home Match Ticket at any time.
3.5 Any Home Match Ticket obtained or used in breach of the Terms & Conditions of Entry shall be automatically void and all rights conferred or evidenced by such Home Match Ticket shall be nullified. Misuse of this Home Match Ticket may result in the holder being ejected from the Ground in respect of a particular Match and/or the cancellation and withdrawal of this Home Match Ticket. In the event of any cancellation and withdrawal in accordance with this clause 3.5, no refund shall be payable. The Club further reserves its right to take any legal action against any persons as it sees fit in connection with such matters.

I then spent ten seconds on Google and brought up this:

    http://plastictrees.typepad.com/plastictreesnet_a_call_fo/2005/08/itunes_podcast_.html

iTunes Podcast Ranking System Easily Manipulated

If you have been using the iTunes podcast list as a way of ranking which podcast are the most popular then you have been misled. While prepping a segment for commandN (Amber Mac’s and my own Vidcast) I had to click on the subscribe button of our podcast a number of times. I noticed that shortly after I had done so our rank on the iTunes Canada music store had gone up.

It looks like iTunes doesn’t record how many people are actually subscribed to a podcast but rather how many times the button is pressed.

This makes the iTunes ranking as irrelevant as a list because just about anyone can change the results in iTunes by simply clicking on the subscribe button 20 or 50 or 100 times.

This was tested in the iTunes Canada store but conceivably should work in all of the iTunes stores.

Could someone give me the email address/URL that I should use to lodge an official complaint?

  16. est-er Says:

rupert, you missed out “less desirables” off your list.

I must say I love reading his ‘holier than thou’ rants. The way he criticises ex-Koptalkers is astonishing.

  17. rupertinsider Says:

He’s no different from any other wannabbe cult leader trying to reinforce what’s left of his flock. He reinforces the “us” by damning “them”.

  18. Tom Says:

rupertinsider you also missed out “people who use long words”

  19. Tom Says:

I’m pretty sure that refers to me, as someone from the KT domain has been sniffing round the website I use to publish my academic research.

  20. silentbutdeadly Says:

univofchicago :- go to liverpoolfc.tv and you’ll see a contact us box on the top right of the page. That opens a pop up and you can select the department you want the email to go to.

I have sent a e-mail to the club about oldham and koptalk, and his latest ticket scam. I apologize for not being as articulate as most of you eggheads but hope it made sense anyway. Heres what I sent, if I get a reply, I will post it on here.

Hi, im a season ticket holder, and have supported this club all my life. I recently got ripped off by a fansite called koptalk. I signed up for 20 quid as there advert claims they have insider knowledge at anfield, melwood and the acadamy. they also claim to have current/former players to be working for them. I very quickly realised that this was a load of lies. Is there nothing that can be done about this conman ripping off LFC supporters to line his own pockets? The scumbag who runs it, Duncan Oldham, is on a daily basis fleecing LFC supporters, and is a well documented supporter of the S*N rag. He claims to have rick parry on a piece of string and meets him “when he can be arsed”. I have become aware that the club knows about this conman, but i understand that it is difficult for you to do anything unless he breaks laws (being a conman he`s probably quite good at avoiding it as much as possible). Well I have some information for you that might be useful. He is advertising on his gold club (subscription only) that he is giving away match tickets in a competition. Now I am under the impression that A: Because he is only running the competition for subscription members he should have a gambling licence. and B: clearly he should seek permission from the club or UEFA before using match tickets to generate himself money in this way as the rules state tickets are not to be used in promotions. A lot of people suspect he doesnt actually have the tickets to give away which would then make it fraud. Is there anything you can do about this scumbag ripping off LFC fans? look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks

hahahahaha. Anyone else who does it should quote http://www.koptalksucks.com – easier to remember 🙂

  24. rupertinsider Says:

paul_cooper: That sounded pretty darned articulate to me. But what would I – “an egghead-born-with-a-silver-spoon-in-me-gob know?”.

  25. paulcooper4 Says:

as long as it made sense

  26. rupertinsider Says:

On the question of him needing a gambling licence – there is the related issue of him needing to provide a street address and not merely a PO address for e-commerce. There is an interesting comment on it on another blog.

  28. rupertinsider Says:

Tom: “….you also missed out “people who use long words”

That was the indadvertent product of my existential nihilism rather than the application of any absolute, structural “a priori” moral imperative which transcends the cognitive process.

  29. Tom Says:

    rupertinsider –
you need to pull your finger out then, your moral imperative should always come before your actual existential nihlisim.

  30. rupertinsider Says:

    Tom

As Socrates once said to Plato – (or was it vice a versa?) “shut up you ignorant gobshyte”.

Not many people know that was the start of the Socratic Method which came to be adopted by most of Europes leading football teams.

its obviously getting quieter over there but he still has a regular (round the clock) audience of about 2-300 constantly logged on..

will old members simply be replaced with new fodder for the machine?
how many members does his free site have?

    ROCK:

That’s news to me. When I’ve checked its been 85-130 – but that may be during quiet times.

Also remember many of his logged-in viewers are critics and former members who still visit for various reasons.

Given his interest in the topic of rigging viewing numbers – it’s what he accuses other sites of doing – I would not have much faith in any figure he offers that is
not independently verified. Just like I wouldn’t accept what the odometer on his Merc says if he tried to sell it.

I’m certain that most of his hits and newbies are coming from News Now. He is putting all his effort into creating links from there. He is swamping its top 20 links list. They are giving priority even to his Podcasts and Advertisements, failing to discriminate between them and stories about LFC.

I think there is something crooked going on. Is it possible that News Now is rigged? Any boffins out there who can investigate?

  36. Jenius Says:

    From Newsnow

    “How are Top Stories determined?

The Top Stories are those stories from each newswire that have been clicked on the most times in the last 24 hours, and which were published in the last two days. This includes the stories in the Top Stories section itsel”

So he could simply keep clicking it, btw this site should add itself to newsnow liverpool category

  37. rupertinsider Says:

ROCK: I’ve just been on KT to check their numbers. It is 2.50 am GMT. This is whatit said:
