Dunk says The Sun is OK.

Anyone who supports Liverpool and is about 25 or over knows for certain why The Sun is boycotted by Liverpool FC, their players and their fans. The vast majority of fans younger than that also know about and support the boycott. Those that don't, once told, soon join the boycott.

Don't buy The Sun. It peddled lies about Liverpool supporters within days of the Hillsborough disaster, disgusting and outrageous lies, and to this day is still to make a full and frank apology. This blog isn't here to explain that to you – if you don't know about the boycott drop us a line and we'll send you some links. It is safe to say that anyone who runs a Liverpool website or has a position of responsibility in relation to a Liverpool website knows about the boycott. And unless they lack integrity they will support the boycott.

Which brings us back to Koptalk and its odious owner and one of its odious moderators. Duncan Oldham is the owner, "DJ Sydney A" is the moderator. Duncan Oldham is infamous for many reasons. One of those reasons is that he used a picture of himself wearing a Sun hat (i.e. a hat given to him by The Sun newspaper) on his website for years. He later tried to claim that he'd been given the hat before he knew about the boycott. Unfortunately the internet proved him to be telling a lie about that – he'd spoken about the boycott in newsgroups before the time he said he'd been given the hat.

Every day the BBC Sport interactive department publish a summary of the latest football gossip from the press. It appears on their website and on teletext, both analogue and digital. Unfortunately it includes gossip from The Sun. Lots of Liverpool fans read it, but no true fan would quote the part of the article featuring a Sun story. Even if someone decides to cut and paste the article onto a newsgroup or forum, they will delete the references taken from the Sun. Not "DJ_Syndey_A" however. The only story in the BBC article involving Liverpool this day was from the Sun. He posted the whole article, highlighted the Sun story in Red, changed the word "Sun" to "S*n" and thought that was OK.

To most of the gullible pre-teen and early-teen readers of the Koptalk site it seemed OK – they (misguidedly) look up to Dunk and his sidekicks. Someone didn't like it though, and asked that it not be done again. "DJ_Sydney_A" was then criticised by others, but continued to try and defend himself. Shortly afterwards, no doubt after his moderator had phoned him, up popped Dunk to not only defend his moderator but to make out that reading the Sun is actually OK. The highly-respected "Rushian", editor of RAWK (Red and White Kop) posted to try and point out these errors, but "DJ_Sydney_A" still felt he'd done no wrong. Unfortunately he had, and maybe he and Dunk would like to visit one of the family members who lost loved ones that day to explain the Koptalk policy about The Sun.

The following is some of the comments made on the site yesterday, which most intelligent Liverpool fans would find offensive, starting with DJ_Sydney_A's response to someone pointing out The Sun should never ever be quoted in this way:

Dj_Sydney_A: Oh get off your high horse, it's from the BBC you plank…

Dj_Sydney_A: I dont need educating on the issue thanks. No one has quoted, read, bought or linked to it here. If this website is so bad, go find another.

Dj_Sydney_A: I'm not quoting anything. No, i wouldnt read it, because i'm not really into tabloid junk journalism. It's idiots like you that cannot differentiate between things that go around making fools of themselves. I couldnt personally give a sh*te what you're thankful for. As i said, if Koptalk is so bad, go and find a better forum, i doubt we'll really notice you're gone.

Dj_Sydney_A: Simple solution here, if you dont like it, dont read it. Or are you just trying to make an argument out of nothing, as i suspect?

Dj_Sydney_A: You're an idiot. You make it sound like i sneaked out to the back garden with a copy and quickly had a sneaky peak of it. Idiotic.

Dj_Sydney_A: You're a complete plank. Who's bought it? Who's reading it? Who took it into Anfield? Who 'loves' it? What a fecking pillock you really are.

Dunk KopTalk Daddy: Who gives a ****? It's about time people grew up. Did he go out and buy it? No did he **** but even if he wanted to, that's his ****ing business and nobody elses. Players speak to The Sun (and they do exclusives so don't come back with that freelance bull), they also carry LFC news whether you like it or not and it can't be ignored. There's a difference between someone merely making reference to something than supporting something. Give it a rest. What next boycott Sky? Boycott TalkSPORT coz MacKenzie set it up? FFS.

Dj_Sydney_A: To clarify, i read and cut & pasted from BBC.co.uk, not from that newspaper, its site, or anything else of it.

Rushian RAWK Editor: DJ – surely you're experienced enough to know the offence it causes when you even do that? You may not be quoting directly, but you are quoting indirectly.
( Quoting Dunk: Players speak to The Sun (and they do exclusives so don't come back with that freelance bull)) – Not as LFC players they don't. On this you're wrong.
( Quoting Dunk: they also carry LFC news whether you like it or not and it can't be ignored.) – They may carry LFC news (it's even been shown in studies that they "over carry" LFC news in a desperate attmept to regain readers) but it's still entirely within your remit as an individual to ignore it. And when was the last time they carried anything important which was exclusive?
(Quoting Dunk: Boycott TalkSPORT coz MacKenzie set it up? FFS.) – Actually many did including all the fanzines and other major LFC websites – even had a begging email from them a few weeks back explaining that Kelvin Mackenzie didn't own the station anymore so could we please talk to them now.

Dj_Sydney_A:
I'm not 'quoting' anyone, i'm posting something from bbc.co.uk…

One reason Dunk was so quick to defend his moderator for his actions? Well the story that seems to have been published nowhere else on the web was the Koptalk story of the day. Rather than admitting he got it from The Sun, he just refers to "newspaper reports". "Newspaper reports today claim…" starts his article, which ends with "Although unconfirmed by the club at this time…"

In our opinion, and no doubt that of many others, it's quite simple what Dunk needs to do now. Make a full and frank apology, and remove all moderator privilages from "DJ Sydney A", even if only for a few months. Make it clear to all his other moderators that quoting from The Sun indirectly or not is unacceptalbe. In addition a hefty donation to the HJC (he can obviously afford it) would be more than appropriate. Without doing all of these things, and stopping himself from using The Sun as a source (directly or indirectly), he can't expect support from true Liverpool supporters. Until then, BOYCOTT KOPTALK. Post this article on other websites. When (or if) Dunk puts things right we'll post details on here, and you can post details elsewhere. Perhaps Dunk will email us (koptalkinsider at gmail.com) to let us know when he's finally seen the errors of his ways.

Hear hear, sickens me to be honest. And people think it's alright to quote them if you just take out the "u" in Sun, or it's ok because it's from the BBC gossip column, or it's alright because you only read their website online and dont by a paper.

I think it's obvious why this site is by far the worst Liverpool forum for it though, others end up banned for doing it on other forums and all congregate here. Shame but there are some ignorant people out there.

People who quote, buy or read that scummy little rag should have a read of this

I didnt reply to your post so why go on the defensive? You're quoting a page which took something out of that rag. Would you read the paper if someone give you it citing "I didn't pay for it so theres no bother"

I've asked him a simple question thats all. Which i'm still waiting for an answer for.

As soon as i've got an answer i'll f*ck off. Just curious as to why he happily takes stuff from the BBC which is reporting headlines from that rag yet feels the need to take out the "u". Some might say it's a petty question but I dont think anything about that subject and the damage is caused to people is petty.

Sydney obviously thought it could cause offence so tried to lessen the word, seems a tad hypocritical.

the way I see it there is a whole generation of liverpool fans that need educating.

the sun/96/h'brough happened nearly 2 decades ago and since many have been born and are completely ignorant to what happened and as such should just be told WHY it is the sun is looked upon with disdane rather than being dived all over.

for example if you were born in (for example) canada in 1990 and moved over with your parents read that rag and then posted the link you'd be non the wiser as to why you were being meet with such hostility.

will you calm down. he went to the bother of pasting in the news from the bbc page. what you want him to do, edit it all and delete any rumour that the link came from the sun? he only took the *u* out as to appease people and not to offend them and to show he is also against the s*n. just like i did there as not to mention the trash paper. its not as if he is pro the newspaper, he only forwarded info he thought people might want to hear.

Yes, highlighting a sentence and pressing the delete button isn't going to take to much time I wouldn't of thought.

He says he doesn't need educating on the issue, seems happy to copy headlines that come from that paper yet edits a letter out of the name, seems a tad weird ie he knows he could cause offence yet still posts it anyway. I just asked him a simple question and await an answer, there's no abuse going on or anything so theres no need to be telling me to "calm down"

What about if the Sun was to report some Liverpool story, then the other papers were to quote the sun and it ended up being true. Would you ignore this news item because it originated from the sun? If it was that we signed a new striker would you refuse to acknowledge him on the pitch?

I dont want anything to do with anything that comes from that paper, if it says on Wednesday we'll unveil a £35m striker I couldnt care less. If we sign a player i'll know because it'll be on the Official Site. Thats the trouble with to many people, they think having a look or just a sneak peek at it once doesnt matter but it does.

Would I refuse to acknowledge a new player because that rag reported us as being in for him? Good grief.

Who's bought it? Who's reading it? Who took it into Anfield? Who 'loves' it?

What a fecking pillock you really are.

Who gives a ****? It's about time people grew up. Did he go out and buy it? No did he **** but even if he wanted to, that's his ****ing business and nobody elses.

Players speak to The Sun (and they do exclusives so don't come back with that freelance bull), they also carry LFC news whether you like it or not and it can't be ignored.

There's a difference between someone merely making reference to something than supporting something.

Give it a rest.

What next boycott Sky? Boycott TalkSPORT coz MacKenzie set it up? FFS.

Then next time you're at a Liverpool game (If you go to any that is) bring you Sun newspaper with you and take it into the ground and start reading it. See what happens to you, then you might actually start to take the boycott seriously.

Lies just days after 96 people lost their lives at a football match arent important but getting the news of a transfer a bit early is? Some "fans" although I dont class these people as that need to get their priorities in order. If anyone reads, quotes or through other sites copies anything from that paper then they can't love Liverpool as much as they claim to do. Thats the bottom line.

A shame it's come to this but i'll put it down as most of the ignorant people regarding that rag have been banned from other sites so have to post here. I wont be posting on here due to this, this is meant to be a LFC fans site but as there are so many lovers on that rag on here it cant possibly be a fans site.

Having not been a part of this stupendous thread all day I feel like I've missed out. I read Ceefax every morning and one of the pages I read is page 338 which is all the sports headlines of the day's papers. Whilst reading these very informative pages I occasionally read something from "that" newspaper and dismiss it straight away. According to some, I have committed the cardinal sin by reading it in the first place. Bullshite, I have, like everyone else, the right to read whatever I want, whenever I want. I also have the right not to.

I dont read "that" paper and haven't done so since 1989 because of the lies they wrote but I will defend anyone who chooses to read it and those who use cut and paste!!!!

You did nothing wrong DJ Sydney, I get the feeling everyone is bored of the lack of news and were purposely picking a fight.

To everyone else.

To clarify, i read and cut & pasted from BBC.co.uk, not from that newspaper, its site, or anything else of it.

DJ – surely you're experienced enough to know the offence it causes when you even do that? You may not be quoting directly, but you are quoting indirectly.

Not as LFC players they don't. On this you're wrong.

    * Quote:

They may carry LFC news (it's even been shown in studies that they "over carry" LFC news in a desperate attmept to regain readers) but it's still entirely within your remit as an individual to ignore it. And when was the last time they carried anything important which was exclusive?

    * Quote:

Boycott TalkSPORT coz MacKenzie set it up? FFS.

Actually many did including all the fanzines and other major LFC websites – even had a begging email from them a few weeks back explaining that Kelvin Mackenzie didn't own the station anymore so could we please talk to them now.
