As another name leaves, the Loon from the Toon gets loonier

Sorry about the lack of order in this post. It contains a selection of this evening’s Koptalk madness. I don’t think I need to say much, let’s just sit back and watch the movie of “The Day that Koptalk Died”. Even if Koptalk survives, I doubt it will be anything like it used to be, and its influence will be diminished a great deal. Anyway, watch the film…

i am pretty offended by the way some people have been treated on here.

banning tom for posting that perfectly normal thread earlier on is just f**king ridiculous. and he was banned no matter what is said on here. he emailed me personally to tell me he was banned and he only received 1 email today from the site and it contained no explanation as to why he was banned.

i also received a snotty email after i posted a reply agreeing with toms very well advanced points which were for the good of this site.

its a disgrace. feel free to do with my membership as you like, im not bothered anymore. and dont bother emailing me either as i am too busy/not bothered to respond.

and its not just the tom being banned thing, thats was the straw that broke the camels back. its the constant deleting of threads, selective information is being exercised, i.e. censorship.

those of you who use google in china might know the feeling..

This thread appeared earlier on Koptalk, in the “Gold” club – it’s now locked, but not deleted.

Don’t be touchy mate, why would I delete the thread? I was just asking a question! I didn’t see the original post by tom but if he considering leaving the site on the basis of his post being removed then that would be a shame but I’m sure it was deleted for good reason, and no doubt it will be sorted out between tom and Dunk/Ste. Tom hasn’t been banned. I have emailed him several times today but as yet haven’t received a response.

Tom found out about this Koptalk thread through another member of the Gold Club, because it was emailed to him.

Tom’s had a lot of spam today (all of a sudden), but he’s still checked it all carefully. This is the only email he’s had from Duncan.

From: Duncan Oldham

Subject: Site Feedback

Thanks for the feedback.

In future, please submit feedback or messages to KopTalk by email.

Thanks

Dunk

This was what he got after his “manifesto” thread had been deleted, and as I’ve just said, it’s the only email he’s had today off Duncan Oldham.

He’s also sent me a screenshot of the sign-in screen for the Insider as it now looks when he tries to log in.

(Click the image for a fuller version of the image).

I don’t think I really need to say much more – except keep spreading the word, especially if you weren’t sure where you stood before the events of the last few days. People need to see this, so they can decide what they think – especially if Dunk is going to lie about individuals on his site.

Tom, a well respected member is banned.

We received this email earlier tonight – it confirms that despite what looked good intentions, Koptalk user Tom’s attempts to try and help Koptalk recover from its current crisis weren’t appreciated. He’s now been banned.

Dear people, just an update from my attempt to inject some adult discussion into the debate about the direction of Koptalk.

I’ve been banned.. I quite shocked but I won’t be able to contribute to KT anymore.

Please pass the message on to the regulars. I won’t be back even if he begs me.

I will be residing at http://www.est1892.co.uk/forums/

the new forum set up by some fellow banned KT’ers.

If I hear anything gossip-wise,  I’ll keep posting FOR FREE  on there.

best wishes

What’s Koptalk got left to go back for if some of its more popular users are considered unwelcome?

Another alias for hide-it-all Oldham

Duncan Oldham is getting a bit of stick of late, as more and more of his members start to realise what he’s actually like. He’s snubbing some of his more influential members and the criticism is getting louder and louder. He’s killing his site by himself, but seems unwilling to accept this.

So what’s his latest ploy? He’s going to start pretending to be Steve now.

With immediate effect Steve will be taking charge of all forum problems.

He will be making his presence known later today.

If you need any help or support with the forums, please contact him direct.

I will still be participating but from this season Steve will have more responsibilities.

That was posted in the “free” forum the one which saw “Ryan20″ and “AnfieldAnfield” banned earlier today. There might be a “2″ after that “AnfieldAnfield” username, it’s hard to keep track of the people either being banned or just walking away.

I’m not sure why he thinks pretending to be Steve will help him with his problems. We’ll no doubt work that out later. It could be to prepare for some of his later lies – like when he says he’s not in the office, he’ll log in as Steve.

The earlier decision by Duncan to remove the thread containing tom’s “manifesto” has caused real anger by the looks of some emails I’ve got. Then some other members who are perhaps still unaware of this blog are wondering what’s going on. Why would Tom’s perfectly reasonable post be deleted so soon? This thread is probably also locked – but look who’s answered it…

Can I just ask why feedback has to be emailed? Why can’t we have a feedback forum, I think it would be great to see the ideas that others have about the site.

And before this thread is locked/deleted this is not an attempt at bringing the snipers out of the shadows – it is a serious request and something which I think could improve the site.

Ok. People moan because we don’t mod enough, then they moan when we mod too much. People moan when we add new forums, people moan when we reduce them. All you do is moan.

If we create feedback forums, we then have to spend time in those also. And what happens when little Johnny gets locked out for missing info say? People start kicking off and moaning when they don’t actually know the facts and then they end up looking stupid.

For the benefit of people who are quite happy as they are, email us. You can tell your friends on MSN or by email what you send and what you received back. It’s not secretive, it just enables us to put emails about feedback into folders about feedback.

Better still, pick a telephone up.

“McWar” asks a reasonable question. So Dunk, I mean “St3″ pipes up with the answer.

It’s not feedback now – it’s a “moan”. He doesn’t want to hear it. He tries to justify his fake reasons for locking people out. He still expects people to believe people were “locked out” for “missing info”. Some members are still locked out. Why should they have to call a mobile phone number just to get back into a service they’ve paid for?

I’d say that anyone who still thinks it’s OK to use Koptalk, even as a “community” needs to take a break from it. Just try staying away from Koptalk for a few days. See if you miss it. Try some other forums out, even if you only lurk.

Dunk doesn’t want anyone using his site if they are going to disagree with anything he says. You can’t ask questions. You do as you’re told.

As for Steve writing that message above, Dunk’s said more than once that Steve’s writing skills aren’t up to much. I’ve not time to find all the quotes now, but there’s one example in here. Some interesting revelations in there from Duncan. (And that post above – it’s Dunk’s very own way of writing. Give it up Dunk – you’ve even been pretending to be other people in our comments section).

Some more bans at Koptalk for asking questions.

I’ve just been sent this little piece of communication from the “Shoitbox”. I’m guessing here, but I’d say it was all posted at around quarter to four.

<brendan> Such a shame, I’d posted a beautifully vitriolic post that eviscerated Jamo, as well
< Dunk> Ryan and AA both banned. There is an acceptable use policy on the site and has been since day 1. If anyone else wishes to leave, this can be arranged.
<onceared> What was unnacceptable dunk? i dont understand this one sorry!
< CheshireDave> How long they been banned for?
<Xability>
<onceared> I must have missed something in the thread before it was deleted?
< discobiscuit> i don;t even know what as in teh thread
<onceared> Some posters were laughing because traore hasgone, andsome were sticking up for him. i didnt see the controversy bit though?
<kingFowl> CD : wats the time over there
< CheshireDave> Thats all I saw andy, although I looked at it about 15 mins ago, must have been posted since then.
<CheshireDave > 15:45
<Xability> thats amazing, it is also 15.45 here too
< kingFowl> thanks pal
<onceared> The last post i saw was AA saying i only read the first post!
< onceared> NO WAY!!! Its 15.45 here too!!! *LOOKSSHOCKED*
<Xability> I think it is more to do with the slagging off of the site in the shoutbox » brendan concurs
< CheshireDave> I bet the shoutbox gets disabled soon.
<onceared> Maybe so Xab, but then why was the thread deleted??
< Dunk> nobody likes moderating the forums but there is an Acceptable Use Policy for the benefit of everyone who don’t want to endure peopel wittering on like girls all day

I’ve been told that the thread included some questions about Koptalk or Dunk, and nothing unreasonable. I’ve not seen the thread (or shoutbox entries if that’s what it was) so I can only go off what I’ve been told.

The last three major “incidents” involving Koptalk have all been from his own members. One member sent an email to Ian Cotton at LFC. Another member put some ideas forward relating to trying to get Koptalk back to a site he’d like to continue visiting. The third one was one of his “free” visitors asking questions.

We’ve hardly got time to visit Koptalk ourselves these days. Does the level of concern from so many of his members not raise any concerns for him, or for his other long-term members?

“Manifesto for Renewal” – deleted by Oldham

A well-respected poster called “tom”, clearly feeling that Koptalk wasn’t what it used to be, decided to try and see if he could help. That’s my take on it anyway – I think his post is clearly aimed at getting Duncan Oldham to try and address some of the points he’s been criticised for. This post / thread last approximately 8 minutes before it was removed.

Luckily, we got a copy of it before it went into the forum’s trash can.

Koptalk – a ten point manifesto  for renewal.

Lets face it, for some time Koptalk has deteriorated.  Immature posts, excessive authoritarianism and a gold-fish bowl “us against  them” mentality are some of the reasons for this. As a long-time poster and  lover of the site, I’ve devised a series of action points that I think will  re-knew KT and in the process return it to its glory days. Effectively this  requires the site grows up, becomes more democratic, transparent and accountable  to its members:

i) Firstly and most importantly “Information wants to be  free” ( Stewart Brand at the first Hackers’ Conference, 1984). Drop the charge  for membership. Charging for information that is almost always available free on  the net elsewhere is iniquitous and brings the site into disrespect amongst  serious Liverpool fans. Aside from this, community sites exist through content  contribution by members. We are effectively being charged for posting our own  content. If fees are to be retained it should be on a voluntary basis only. This  is also fairer as it allows the low-waged or unemployed to  participate.

ii) The gold club used to be a very effective debating  forum. Now it sucks. Some alternatives, ditch fees (or make them voluntary as  above). Gold club membership should be conferred on the basis of quality of a  members posts and their standing in the community – not on the depth of their  pockets. I suggest that membership of the Gold club operates through a  “recommendation” mechanism – via other members.

iii) Allow and encourage  the links and sharing of information between different Liverpool sites. The ban  on content from other sites is daft. I go to matches with people who post on  other sites. Naturally we share gossip. Are we to be banned from discussing  things we read on KT, YNWA, RAWK etc. in real life? Are we to be policed on the  streets as well as on the net!

iv) Remove the block on copy and paste  (see above).

v) Back-off from the heavy handed authoritarianism, the  locking and removing of serious posts and threads. This place is turning it  Stalin’s Russia. Do things in a clearer way, merge threads don’t lock  them.

vi) Explain- when people are banned – why that is the case. Allow  them to defend themselves publicly in the KT forums and let the membership  decide by voting whether they should be shipped out or not. More democracy, less  Stalinism and KGB/Stasi behaviour please.

vii) Please block the soft-porn  avatars. My kids and wife sometimes look at this site, it’s offensive and  degrading. This is 2006 not 1976.

viii) Please remove the adds for  *bet-fair* etc. for the same reason. Income can be generated through “cleaner”  adds or pop-ups -even in the gold club.

ix) Amnesty for banned members,  and outreach to other LFC sites. Maybe even appoint some form of member panel,  to help spread the word that Koptalk has reformed.

x) And finally, lets  be adult here, we are all aware of the controversy surround Dunk, my final  suggestion for the site is that Dunk takes a back seat and isn’t so visible,  operating more as a background administrator. Surely that would be a relief for  him, whoever he is, as he must be suffering at the moment. Less of the made-up  gossip, nom de plumes etc. A bit more honesty all round. Try it Dunk – you might  find it suits you.

What is the option if this can’t be achieved? Ideas?

superb post Tom, fair and balanced I thought. Before I  respond to your various points, can I make a serious appeal to the powers that  be that this thread does not result in people being banned or in the thread  being deleted.

From reading the post it comes across as an intelligently  written, unprovocative mission statement. Which people can choose to agree with  or not agree with. But I think in the interests of transparency and maturity  this post should be allowed to remain.

1) The fee thing is the most  controversial of your points Tom. If koptalk does have large overheads and it is  costing the owners money to keep the site up and running then I think looking  for a contribution is fair enough, after all the ‘song site’ also requests a  contribution from members, although that contribution is optional and the amount  you wish to give is at your discretion. I totally agree that we should not be  charged for receiving information or reading posts from certain people or  posting ourselves. I don’t see the need to pay 30/40 quid a year for  that.

2) agree totally with this, it’s a futile exercise. Although we  aren’t allowed to mention ynwa, we are alloed call it the ‘song site’ and copy  and post threads from there on here. So the ban baffles me I have to say. I  don’t think it will result in people leaving koptalk either.

3) agree  totally about deleting posts which question things. However I fear this post  will now be deleted.

4) I too find some of the soft porn avatars  offensive. As tom says kids come on here to read liverpool fans thoughts and are  greeted by such avatars and I too find it objectionable to say the  least.

5) I have been saying for a long time that the standard of the  post has deteriorated dramatically. Liverpool fans have long been known as the  most knowledgeable in the game and reading some of the posts on here completely  destroys that belief. To combat this I think the mods need to be a lot more  vigilant. I too am an long time poster and lover of this site but the  ingredients that made me love this site have been lost along the way. I think  this is directly due to older posters deserting the site so the amnesty is a  good idea I think.

6) finally, I hope this is taken with goodwill. Tom is  a v well respected poster on this site and he clearly wouldn’t go to the trouble  of writing this if he didn’t love the site. All he wants and I want and everyone  wants is the integrity to be maintained on this site which is/was, I think its  fair to say, the original flagship of the independent online Liverpool forums. I  don’t think its an attack or a offensive post. I think its great, it’s a turning  point in my opinion and that’s why I’d like to throw my weight 100% behind it

I think all of your points are very  valid.

However I don’t see that KT has to be free. There are srvices that  it provides such as text message updates and videos that are nice to have and  time/hard disk space cost money. My problem is that the advertising of special  information is dubious and certainly misleading.

That was as much as we got before the post disappeared. Deleted either by a mod, or by Duncan Oldham himself. Duncan clearly will not tolerate open discussion. This wasn’t on his “free” site, this was on his paid-for, subscription-only site. To remove the thread before anyone could really discuss shows a distinct lack of respect for his members. What is he afraid of?

Shortly afterwards, tom decided to post a pretty fair question – where had his post gone?

v disappointing.

but  sadly, not surprising.

was it a mod being over zealous?

With that I’ll leave you to comment on the “manifesto” here, because you can’t do that on the Koptalk site itself.

Duncan Oldham is clearly afraid of what his members will say about him.

Some info from Mr Carter

One thing which does happen on Koptalk from time to time, as with most other forums it has to be said, is that a poster does seem to genuinely have access to inside information. Koptalk’s no different in that respect. Like all sites, some of the posters unconnected with the site actually do seem to have some kind of contact with those close to the club. As with all sites, there’s a few who claim to have inside contacts, but clearly don’t.

Dunk charges people for his insider site because of the inside information he claims it provides. He has none of his own, that’s pretty clear to me, perhaps others need more time to read the blog before making up their own minds. He does have a couple of posters on his site though who seem to have a bit of inside information.

If those posters left his site tomorrow, he’d have nothing other than made-up stories and rumours taken from other sites. Would he give refunds? No, course not. He’d try and say there was more to the insider than insider stories. And those unfortunate enough not to have seen all the facts about Duncan would believe him blindly.

Anyway, here’s a post by a member of the Insider site who actually seems to be genuine by all accounts. “By all accounts” means I’ve had a few people telling me they think he’s not Dunk, and they do think he’s one of the few members that are in the know. Unlike “wallet”, “The Informer”, “Pat McCat” and the rest.

We post this as part of our long-running campaign to provide all “Insider” information from Koptalk for free, whether it’s true or bullshit.

Rafa and the scouting department have picked up business in the last few weeks esopecially now since the U19’s championships have started and there are about 5 deals currently in the pipeline they may not all go through but they are there and Rafa is said to be extremely excited by two in particular.

Firstly there are two madrid based Spaniards one of which is spoken about in Marca today unfortuanately not the online edition. I believe his name is Esteban. The other is a athletico madrid full back who I assume would replace Barragan. Might be Regalon who was written about a few weeks back.

A young American lad is being looked, I dont know his name but he is a striker and is said to be making a name for himself in America, any help with names would be much appreciated as I can try to find out.

Lee Holmes of Derby is being looked at, If anyone knows anything about it then please elaborate for me.

There is also a turkish lad under serious consideration again no names at the minute but apparently he is sh*t hot and is a centre midfielder.

Sorry there arent many names but I am trying to get them. Being as they are young it is kept rather hush hush.

The whole Daniel Alves affair is beginning to really hit breaking point. From what I have heard it is down to a final push and if not there are other options. Del Nido is said to be slighlty annoyed about Barragan still.

Dirk Kuyt is the same as last week in that nothing has happened, something might but not at the minute.

Trezeguet is awaiting the appeal before any decision but it would seem contract demands will be price him out.

Awesome SCarter. Thanks for the update.

Great to hear that they’re recruiting more young talent into the club that will hopefully come through the ranks. Definately getting excited about seeing that happen again!

Hopefully there’s some better news about signing Alves etc. soon!

del nido annoyed about barragan? have i been asleep?

i didnt know del nido was keen on barragan as a replacement?
If he was, what was the problem with rafa giving our right sider, plus cash for alves? It seems to make perfect sense.

Please shed some more light on this. Cheers!

We got him from Sevilla didn’t we? Maybe they’re a bit pissed off because we’ve sold him back to spain to one of their rivals?

King Of Kop – We got Barragan from Sevilla last season for a nominal fee when he was their best young prospect.

Muaddiblanso – I will try and find out where he is from etc. What is your mates name, is he any good?

Dww 100 – The most exciting one is the lad Esteban Granero. Apparently he is a very strong midfielder but is dismayed in Spain. Marca have a the a bit about him to Liverpool in there tody if anyone has a Marca.

Has anything over here in the last week or so been printed at all about any Ajax players. Namely Ryan Babel.

cheers for that.

It does (on paper) look like we’ve dicked them about here. I wonder if it’s too late to pull the coruna transfer and throw del nido a bone, still insisting on the sell back clause?

I think the Turkish player is the 17 year old Turko-German central midfielder Nuri Sahin who played for Dortmund last season.

Don’t think we’ve been linked to any of Ajax players recently but there has been discussions on here about Babel and huntelaar.

If you think any of this is lifted from elsewhere, please provide a link. I’d like readers to try and do this with any posts now from Dunk, his aliases or his real members that we post.
